The Most Reverend Dale J. Melczek, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, has announced the following appointments, effective March 22, 2010.

Reverend William J. Spranger is granted Senior Priest status. A priest for 54 of his 80 years, Father Spranger has served as pastor of All Saints, San Pierre, since June 1985, when he was also named chaplain at Little Company of Mary/Holy Cross Care Center, now closed, also in San Pierre. Father Spranger was born June 22, 1929 in Fort Wayne, where he attended school before entering the seminary. A product of St. Meinrad, he was ordained a priest May 26, 1956 in Fort Wayne. Following ordination, Father Spranger served as assistant at St. Mary, Michigan City; St. Thomas More, Munster; St. Mary, Crown Point; Holy Rosary, Gary; and Our Lady of Grace, Highland. His first pastorate came in June 1969, when he was assigned to Nativity of Our Savior, Portage. He served there two years, after which he became pastor at St. Margaret Mary, Hammond, in 1971. In June 1979 he moved to downtown Hammond to become pastor at St. Joseph. He served there until being assigned to All Saints in Starke County. Father Spranger will be residing at the Albertine Home in Hammond.

The Most Reverend Dale J. Melczek, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, has announced the following appointments, effective February 15, 2010. Deans have been appointed to a five-year term. Appointed by the bishop, deans have certain authority over the common pastoral activities of a specific area (deanery) of the diocese. Responsibilities include meeting regularly with the bishop, convening monthly deanery meetings, visiting deanery parishes, and mediating in the first instance for the bishop in deanery matters requiring conciliation in priest-priest or priest-laity concerns.
	Monsignor John J. Siekierski’s appointment as Vicar General of the Diocese of Gary is extended. He also continues to serve as pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish in East Chicago.  Msgr. Siekierski has served as vicar general and Northlake dean since July 1, 2005, succeeding Father Stanley Dominik at both positions. Ordained in 1967, he has served as a dean since 1986 and has been pastor at St. Stanislaus since 1996. Having formerly served on the Marriage Tribunal, the monsignor has also been pastor at St. Theresa, Shelby, and St. Hedwig  and Blessed Sacrament, both in Gary. The vicar general, according to canon law, “possesses that executive power in the entire diocese which belongs to the diocesan bishop … he possesses the power to place all administrative acts with the exeception of those which the bishop has reserved for himself.”
	Reverend David W. Kime, currently dean pro tem, is appointed Dean of the LaPorte County Deanery, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor of St. Joseph Parish in LaPorte. Father Kime was ordained a priest in 1997. He has served at several parishes in addition to being an instructor at Andrean and Marquette Catholic high schools. He assisted at Nativity of Our Savior, Portage, prior to his appointment as St. Joseph pastor in 2009.
	Reverend Richard A. Orlinski is appointed Dean of the Northlake Deanery, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor of St. John Bosco Parish and St. Joseph Parish in Hammond. Father Orlinski succeeds Msgr. Siekierski as Northlake County dean. He was ordained a priest in 1973 and has served on the Marriage Tribunal. Currently pastor at two parishes, he has also been pastor a Sacred Heart, LaPorte, and St. Catherine of Siena and St. Mary, both in Hammond. He became pastor at St. John Bosco in 1998 and St. Joseph in 2009.
	Reverend Joseph M. Pawlowski is appointed Dean of the Porter-Starker Counties Deanery, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor of St. Paul Parish in Valparaiso. Father Pawlowski succeeds Father Gerald Schweitzer as Porter-Starke dean. Father Schweitzer, who followed Msgr. Richard Zollinger in that position, served as dean for 11 years and, according to Bishop Melczek, “demonstrated his priestly leadership and broad vision of the Church. His wise counsel and spirit of generosity have been much appreciated.” Ordained to the priesthood in 1973, Father Pawlowski is a former vicar general and diocesan finance manager. He was appointed pastor at St. Paul in 1998, having previously served as pastor at St. Margaret Mary, Hammond, and St. Mary of the Lake, Gary.
	Reverend Jon J. Plavcan, currently Dean pro tem, is appointed Dean of the Gary-Hobart Deanery, in addition to his responsibilities as Administrative Assistant to the Bishop and rector of Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary. Father Plavcan, the bishop’s administrative assistant since 2000, was appointed cathedral rector in 2007. He had previously served as temporary administrator at Assumption BVM, New Chicago. A former instructor at Bishop Noll Institute, he had also served as associate pastor at Our Lady of Grace, Highland, and St. Mark, Gary. He was ordained a priest in 1994.
	Reverend Michael J. Yadron, currently Dean pro tem, is appointed Dean of the Southlake County Deanery, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in Munster.  Father Yadron came to St. Thomas More after previous pastorates at Queen of All Saints, Michigan City, St. Maria Goretti, Dyer, and Holy Trinity, Gary. Ordained a priest in 1983, he is a former instructor at Bishop Noll Institute and former chaplain and director at Camp Lawrence. Father Yadron is also a former director of the diaconate formation program.

	Reverend Roy T. Beeching is appointed pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish and St. Joan of Arc Parish in Merrillville. Father Beeching has served as pastor of St. Joseph, Hammond, since 1993 and is on the Diocesan Cemetery Board. A former instructor at Marquette High School and college and hospital chaplain, He has served at Notre Dame and Queen of All Saints, Michigan City; St. Mark, Gary; and St. Michael, Schererville. He received his first pastorate in 1986 at St. Mark, serving there until being named to St. Joseph in 1993.
	Reverend Brian D. Chadwick is appointed pastor of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Merrillville, in addition to continuing responsibilities as Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Gary. Father Chadwick had been named temporary administrator at St. Andrew the Apostle in 2008. Ordained in 2001, he was associate pastor at Queen of All Saints before continuing his studies in canon law. He was later named associate pastor at St. Michael, Schererville, in addition to his duties with the Marriage Tribunal.
	Reverend Andrew J. Corona is appointed pastor of Nativity of Our Savior Parish in Portage. Father Corona was ordained in 1993. Since then he has served at St. Patrick, Chesterton; as full-time campus minister at Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond; at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hammond; St. Adalbert, Whiting; St. John Bosco, Hammond; and Queen of All Saints. He has been pastor at St. Joan of Arc since 2001.
	Reverend Leonardo J. Gajardo is appointed to complete studies in Canon Law at The Catholic University of America. Father Gajardo has served as associate pastor at St. Casimir, Hammond, since his ordination in 2006. He has also worked in the Marriage Tribunal.
	Reverend David H. Gosnell is granted Senior Priest status. Father Gosnell has served as pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Valparaiso, since 1997. A former dean of the Southlake County Deanery, he was ordained in 1965.
	Reverend David W. Kime is appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish in LaPorte. Father Kime has been serving as administrator at Nativity of Our Savior, Portage, but he has also worked with the Hispanic community in LaPorte County while residing at St. Joseph. Ordained in 1997, he has served at St. Mary, East Chicago, and as a full-time teacher at Andrean High School, Merrillville, and campus minister at Marquette High School, Michigan City.
	Reverend Douglas J. Mayer is appointed pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Valparaiso. Father Mayer was ordained in 1986 and has been pastor at Our Lady of Sorrows, his first pastorate, since 1996. He has served at St. John the Evangelist, St. John, in campus ministry, and in residence at Seton.
	Reverend James P. McGrogan is granted Senior Priest status. Father McGrogan, a former diocesan school superintendent, was ordained in 1964. He has served as pastor at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Michigan City, since 1992 and administrator of Sacred Heart Mission, Michigan City, since 1999.
	Reverend Peter J. Muha is appointed pastor of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Merrillville. Ordained in 1988, Father Muha earned his first pastorate at St. Edward, where he currently serves. He has been appointed to St. Paul, Valparaiso; St. Michael; Our Lady of Grace, Highland; and St. John Bosco. He is also a former diocesan ecumenical officer.
	Reverend Theodore A. Nordquist is appointed pastor of St. Edward Parish in Lowell. Father Nordquist, who is currently pastor at St. Joseph, LaPorte, is also dean of the LaPorte County Deanery. He was ordained in 1980, after which he has been appointed to St. Catherine of Siena, Hammond; Our Lady of Grace; as a hospital chaplain; and in 1996 to his first pastorate at St. Joseph.
	Reverend Richard A. Orlinski is appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Hammond, in addition to continuing responsibilities as pastor of St. John Bosco Parish in Hammond. Father Orlinski has served as pastor at St. John Bosco since 1998. He had previously been pastor at Sacred Heart, LaPorte; and St. Catherine of Siena, as well as administrator at St. Francis Xavier, Lake Station. He was ordained in 1973, after which he served at Notre Dame, Our Lady of Grace, St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Paul.
	Reverend Walter J. Rakoczy is appointed pastor of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Michigan City, and administrator of Sacred Heart Mission in Michigan City. Father Rakoczy has been pastor at Nativity of Our Savior since 2000, coming to Portage from St. Adalbert, where he received is first pastorate in 1990. Following ordination in 1978, he served at St. Stanislaus Kostka, Michigan City; Our Lady of Perpetual Help; as an instructor at Bishop Noll Institute; St. Stanislaus, East Chicago; St. Mary, Michigan City; Sacred Heart, LaPorte; and as director of Marquette High School.
	Reverend Selvaraj Selladurai, who is associate pastor at Queen of All Saints Parish in Michigan City, is incardinated into the Diocese of Gary, effective March 19, 2009. Father Selladurai, a native of India, where he was ordained in 1985. Coming to the Diocese of Gary, he has served as chaplain at St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Centers, Dyer, and as associate pastor at St. Michael; St. Patrick, Chesterton; St. Mary, Crown Point; and St. Paul, before coming to Queen of All Saints in 2007.
	Reverend Dennis J. Teles is granted Senior Priest status. Father Teles, pastor at Ss. Peter and Paul, Merrillville, and Blessed Sacrament, Gary, is the current dean of the Southlake County Deanery. He was ordained in 1965.
	Reverend Frank D. Torres is appointed associate pastor of St. Casimir Parish in Hammond, with additional responsibilities for the Spanish-speaking community at Sacred Heart Parish in Whiting, and also responsibilities at St. Patrick Parish in East Chicago. Father Torres, ordained in 1994, was administrator at Holy Rosary, Gary, before being appointed to St. Mary, East Chicago; and St. Joseph, LaPorte, where he ministered to the Hispanic community.
	Reverend Joseph E. Vamos is granted Senior Priest status. Father Vamos, pastor at Our Lady of Consolation, Merrillville, was ordained in 1966. He is a former missions director for the diocese.
	Reverend John J. Zemelko is appointed pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Valparaiso. Father Zemelko has been associate pastor at St. Thomas More, Munster, since 2008. He had previously been named pastor at St. Adalbert (2000) and Ss. Cyril and Methodius, North Judson (2002). The current diocesan missions director, he was ordained in 1987. He served at St. John Bosco; Our Lady of Grace; St. Stanislaus, East Chicago; and St. Patrick, Chesterton.
